The Go-Between recounts the story of an elderly man, Leo Colston, who accidentally unlocks the memories of his past which he had long ago left buried. Memories of the oppressively hot summer of 1900 and of his days spent in Norfolk come flooding back. Spending the holidays with the family of his school friend Marcus, the young Leo is unwittingly enlisted into an adult affair of deceit and forbidden passion. Acting as the go-between for the beautiful, upper-class Marian and tenant-farmer Ted, Leo becomes embroiled in a doomed love affair which will shape his life forever.
With a sophisticated musical score that takes influences from classical music and operetta, we witness the story of young Leo, whose unwitting involvement in a forbidden love affair between the beautiful, upper-class Marian and tenant farmer Ted shapes his life forever.
The beautiful ballad Butterfly has been recorded by Nigel Richards on his solo album and also performed at the Criterion, West End by Peter Polycarpou as part of Perfect Pitch’s The Great British Musical gala concert.
2016 saw the West End premiere of this beautiful British musical. Greene Light Stage, Bill Kenwright Ltd and Perfect Pitch produced a limited 20-week run at the Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue.
